“Brf Årstakrönet” – a part of GrowSmarter, for reduced energy usage

The tenant-owned apartments of Brf Årstakrönet in Stockholm is part of the pilotprojects in the concept GrowSmarter, together with cities like Barcelona and Köln, to reduce their use of electricity, water and heating. With smart environmental techniques for energy, infrastructure and transportation the goal is energyefficiency and a reduction of the climate effects while at the same time creating job opportunities – for a sustainable urban growth.

BeBo (The Energy Agency’s client group for energy-efficient multi-family buildings) has been active since 1989 and is a network of property owners with Swedish Energy Agency as the financier. It focus on reducing dependence on energy in the form of heat and electricity in apartment buildings and reducing environmental influences. Through demonstrationprojects and more, BeBo transfers both financial support and knowledge from the Energy Agency to real estate owners.

Residential influence led to renovation instead of demolition

The demolition of a residential area in Norrtälje in Stockholm was prevented by a working group of tenants and an extensive renovation was done instead.  Because the tenants were attentive and came in at an early stage, they were able to influence the planning togehter with The Swedish Union of Tenants and the housing company. Therefore all tenants can continue to live in their homes and enjoy the renoveted area, even without any rental increase.
